Insectarium is a semi-permanent installation located at NSCAD University in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. It was designed to be a laboratory for the research work of Ms. Christopher Kaltenbach. Its design was based on the chemical structures of the chitin present in the insect exoskeleton. It was built with with just under 400 hexagonal cardboard tubes and stacked in a 108 a room of 108 square meters (9 square meters. Its structure redefines two separate spaces, an academic office space (the room's previous function of the room), and an insect research laboratory space. It was produced with sponsorship from Maritime Paper, and with the use of parametric design and digital fabrication, conceived by Christopher Kaltenbach and signed by his design studio actionfindcopypaste, with Naryn Davar as parametric design consultant and Marina Pires as digital fabrication and prototyping consultant.
